Introduction: Psychological First Aid is an evidence-informed approach for assisting children, adolescents, adults, and families in the aftermath of Emergencies and Crises. This course will cover learnings to be applied to selected evidence-based low-intensity interventions: specifically; brief psychoeducation, problem-solving, social and behavioral activation (including self-help and support groups). The ability to evaluate problem and identify simple management plan through case examples will be covered.
Proposed Course Contents:
The course contents will be finalized after a short assessment of all the participants. However, the proposed contents are provided below:
- Introduction to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in humanitarian settings
- PFA definition and framework
- Applying PFA action principles: Look, Listen, Link
- Communication skills
- People who likely need special attention
- Cultural and ethical considerations
- Self and team care
- Introduction to Mental Health Conditions: DISORDERS
- Identification of priority condition: DEPRESSION
- Identification of priority condition: ANXIETY
- Identification of priority condition: PTSD
- Overview of selected evidence-based, low-intensity interventions
- Practicing problem identification and management planning
